Leon morrisLeon Morris

My name is Leon Jota Morris, I am 19 and live in Stockbridge, Hampshire, just 10 miles from the Thruxton race track. I work as a mechanic and when I am not in the garage I am racing.

During the 2006 season I raced with NG Road Racing Club in the Super Sport 600 series. I rode a 2006 Yamaha YZF-R6 for C.S.C Racing. This was my first proper season on a 600 and I got to grips with it pretty well. I took a considerable number of wins that year and, with consistent performances, I was rarely off the podium. At the end of the season I won the championship. After this I firmly set my sights on riding in the Virgin Media Cup in 2007.

The Virgin Media R6 Cup is a support race to the British Superbike class; a highly competitive one make race series. It is aimed at racers aged between 16 and 25 and, as everyone is on identical machines, designed to highlight raw talent. With massive help from Protyre, Refined Recruitment, C.S.C/ Middleton and many others I got the chance to prove my worth against the top racers in the country.

Leon morrise in full flowThe start of the season was great, with a fourth in the first round at Brands Hatch and a very close second at Thruxton. Things were looking good and I had a few more decent results, running third in the series and still in contention for the title.

Oulton Park was where my luck seemed to change; I was leading the race until the last lap when a hard manoeuvre put me on the grass and with dirty tyres I fell at the next corner. Things went from bad to worse from then on really, just past the mid way point of the season I got taken out at Mallory Park and sustained a broken collar bone. This set me back a bit and I saw my title hopes slowly disappear. Donington Park was the penultimate round of the calendar. I was looking forward to this race, I had already been on the podium before when the series supported the Moto GP. Unfortunately I was knocked off out of third place on the last lap – that was the final straw. I finished up the series in a lowly eighth.

Leon Morrise and Team Boss discussing the game planWhile many people see this as a very creditable result, I was gutted. However my efforts did not go unnoticed and next year is already looking very positive. I am riding the new Ducati 1098R in the National Superstock series, another support class to the British Superbikes, for a local main Ducati Dealer in Winchester called Moto-Rapido. They have provided me with an amazing opportunity to move up a level and compete against the best of the best and I thank them very much for this. I have all ready tested the old 1098 and won the autumn BSN championship on it at Pembrey, and I’m sure with enough time on the new bike we can have a respectable season ahead of us next year.
